Pathways Fund Interns Need Our Support!

Opportunities for Immanuel to Provide Mentoring and Financial Support

What is a Pathways Intern?

We created the Pathways Internship Fund to provide financial support to economically disadvantaged students interested in unpaid internships, and to create opportunities for Immanuelites to mentor the interns prior to and during their internships.

The Fund was initially seeded by an Immanuel endowment grant, and has grown thanks in part to donations from Immanuelites. You can learn more about the Fund, including why internships for disadvantaged students are beneficial, at ipcpathways.org/internship-fund.

The Fund Propels Pathways Outside the Walls of Immanuel

IPC Pathways provides regular opportunities for Immanuel to be a mentoring congregation. The Internship Fund is a limitless opportunity for us to expand our reach, from supporting Immanuel youth and young adults (we call this “Pathways Inreach”) to outside the borders of Immanuel (“Pathways Outreach”), particularly to disadvantaged, under-mentored youth (“Pathways Upreach”).

Our First Pathways Interns Are About to Start!

Pathways Fund interns selected by Communities in Schools at Wakefield High School are about to start internships working with senior citizens at Goodwin House. Liz Velander, the Director of the Internship Fund, is soliciting additional internship opportunities for more students.

We need three things:

We Need Mentors!

Each Pathways intern will have two mentors, who can be anyone connected to Immanuel who’s in college or older.  We encourage friends to sign up together, or we can pair volunteers  — ideally a younger person with an older person — so the interns hear different perspectives.

Mentor pairs would have at least 3 conversations with their assigned intern, by phone, video conference or in person, to get to know each other, offer thoughts about what is expected in an internship and check in to see how things are going.  We’ll provide materials and ideas for how to conduct those conversations.

We have an immediate need for four more mentors, but as the Fund expands, we’ll need more.

We Need Internships!

Please share the flyer linked here with anyone you think might be willing to host interns for 2-3 weeks, 3-4 days/week and 3-5 hours/day. Employers can be large or small companies, non-profits or government departments, anywhere in the DC area.

We Need Your Ideas and Support – Financial & Otherwise!

We are looking for…

Organizations like Communities in Schools to partner with.

Additional communities like Immanuel to support Pathways interns.

Ideas for identifying students in Northern Virginia who would benefit from being Pathways Interns.

Donations (using this link to the donations page)  to grow the Pathways Fund, so we can support more students.

Please use the button below to tell us you’d like to support the Pathways Fund by providing mentoring or financial support, or sharing your ideas!
